Jenson Shires is one of the
leading sources of cooled semen in the country. We pride ourselves in producing
a top quality product to the mare owner. We have a well equipped Lab that
contains the latest technology available in collection and evaluation of semen.
Because of our close proximity to the airport we can collect the semen and have
it in your hands within 12 to 18 hours (including Hawaii and Alaska) from the
time it is collected. We us Fed EX, UPS and Delta Air lines for delivery
sources.
We collect and prepare the
semen in our own lab here at the farm. When you receive cooled semen from
Jenson Shires you will receive an accurate accounting of volume, sperm count,
progressive motility, extenders used, and the actual number of sperm in your
shipment. Having all this available at our farm makes it a more expedient
service for the mare owner. We will work directly with your veterinarian to
insure a high degree of success rate.
- Frozen Semen

We collect and freeze semen here on the farm utilizing the
latest technology. We have stored frozen semen from many stallions that
are no longer available for live cover. The success of frozen semen is
directly dependant upon the technician using the product. It can be an
effective tool to use in reproduction but there are very few individuals
that have the ability and know how to utilize frozen semen properly. We
have good success using frozen semen here on the farm. The semen we
freeze has good motility on post thaw and we generally put 2 billion
live progressive motel sperm per straw at post thaw. The key factor in
utilization of frozen semen is proper timing in the insemination of the
recipient mare.
Purchase Follow up

If the Shire breed is to
progress we need to have more breeders actively involved in the reproduction of
this majestic animal. Many of our clientele that purchase stock form our herd
are first time owners and have very little experience in the care and breeding
of Shires.
We will work closely with
new owners and are available via the telephone and e-mail to work closely with
these new owners to answer their questions. It is our hope that through this

Invitro fertilization

One of the newest trends of
the livestock reproduction is embryo transfer. We are entering this program in
order to more quickly improve the quality of Shires in our breeding program.

This program will become the
most vital part of our quality enhancement program for our breeding herd. Embryo
transfer will become the most expedient improvement factor in improving the
quality of the Shire by evaluation of the stallions and mares in a much shorter
time.
